Location Of Siliserh Lake

Rajasthan has innumerable tourist spots with several of them exhibiting a perfect blend of nature and history. Lake Siliserh is just one of them. Spreading across an area of 7 square km, Lake Siliserh is a beautiful lake located about 15 km away from the historic city of Alwar. The city itself is a hub of tourist spots an is situated at a distance of about 164 km from Delhi and about 160 km from Jaipur.

History Of Siliserh Lake

The Siliserh Lake is an artificial lake that was constructed in 1845 by Maharaja Vinay Singh for the purpose of storing water to serve the needs of his subjects. The lake was creating by damming the rivers in the area. A palace was established on the banks of the lake that served as the summer residence and hunting lodge of the royal family.

Things To See And Do At Lake Siliserh

Today, the lake is a tourist spot that is visited by both Indian and foreign tourists. A boat ride in the lake is highly enjoyable. Those who just wish to absorb the beauty and tranquility of the place can also do so by just observing the surroundings while visiting the lake. The Aravalli mountains forming the backdrop of the lake further enhances its beauty. Those interested in bird watching can also visit the Siliserh Lake in the winter months when migratory birds arrive in the region in large numbers.

Places In And Around Lake Siliserh

There are several tourist destinations near Lake Siliserh. One can tour the historic city of Alwar which a palace, a fort, and temples. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is also close by. Those who dare can also visit the Bhangarh Fort about an hour and a half away from the lake. It is reportedly one of the world’s most haunted destinations and no one is allowed to enter the fort area after sunset as per government dictat.

Where To Stay?

Several hotels including heritage stays are available for overnight stay in Alwar. For those seeking a unique accommodation, the Dadhikar Fort would be a great option.

For those wishing to stay by the lake itself, the Lake Palace Hotel (the summer palace mentioned previously has now been converted to this hotel) could be a good option but since I have no personal experience of staying here, I cannot provide a review here. It is currently run by the state government’s tourism department.
