1. Guwahati 



Guwahati is the largest city in Assam both by population and by size. The city had a population of 968,549 during the 2011 Census. Located on the Brahmaputra River’s southern banks, Guwahati is one of the country’s fastest-growing cities. It is also a major riverine port. Guwahati is surrounded by forests that thrive with wildlife. The city often acts as a gateway to tourists traveling to the northeast Indian tourist destinations.

2. Silchar

The second most populated city in Assam is Silchar which recorded a population of 628,985 in 2011. The city serves as the Cachar district’s administrative headquarters. It is also Assam’s second largest city by municipal area. The city in located in the state’s southern parts and is surrounded by about 100 tea estates that produce high-quality Assam tea.

3. Dibrugarh 



The third most populated city in Assam, Dibrugarh is the Dibrugarh district’s headquarters. It is also famous as the Tea City of India. Dibrugarh is one of the emerging Indian cities for commerce and industry. It is currently a major hub of industry, healthcare, and communication in upper Assam. It is located about 439 km to the east of Guwahati. The 2011 census found the population of the city to be 154,019.
