Usually, one or more railway tracks run alongside the platform on one or either side. The platform is used by passengers boarding or alighting from trains or waiting for trains.

1. Gorakhpur Junction, Uttar Pradesh
India’s longest railway station platform is located at the Gorakhpur Junction in the Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh. The station has a length of 1,355.40 meters. The platform also holds the record of being the world’s longest platform. The platform was inaugurated on October 6, 2013. At the time of its inauguration, it grabbed the title of the Longest Railway Platform in India from the Kharagpur Railway Platform.
2. Kollam Junction, Kerala
The Kollam Junction railway station is located in the Kollam city in Kerala. One of the oldest stations in the state, the Kollam Junction hosts the country’s and the world’s second longest railway platform. The platform has a length of 1,180.5 m. There are six platforms in total at the station. The longest one is platform 1 which is divided into two sections 1A and 1. The former handles trains from the Punalur-Sengottai line while the latter handles trains moving towards Trivandrum Central.
3. Kharagpur, West Bengal
India’s third longest railway platform is located in Kharagpur in the Indian state of West Bengal. The platform has a length of 1,072.5 meters, making it the world’s third longest railway platform. The four platforms, 1,2,3, and 4 together make up one single, long platform.
